Whether it's a blunt fringe, short layers, dip-dye or a whole new shade of hair, the new year brings with it the perfect opportunity to test out the most coveted hairstyles and hair trends sported by celebrities and street-style stars. We asked the UK's top hairstylists and colourists to find out what they predict will be the biggest hair trends of 2017.
THE BRAID UPDATE
Plaits might not be anything new but this year it's all about leaving things loosey goosey.
'The fact that they are soft and slightly undone gives them an element of modern romance,' says Adam Reed, 'Not every hair is in place and it's not over clean and over tidy. The braid itself is the dominant feature of all of these looks.'
RIBBONS
Working their way down the runway at Tory Burch and Marchesa, ribbons are officially back.
Why? According to hair stylist and owner of his eponymous salon, Paul Edmonds, it's because 'They're versatile and add a feminine touch to any occasion. I love the little black navy bow or ribbon loosely tied in a low pony tail which is slightly pulled away from the scalp. This can be worn either straight back with a classic centre parting or side parting for added glam.'
Anything we should avoid? 'Don't wear the big bow, it's a bad throw back!'
